Karcher Courtyard

Submitted by Lori Hintz, BAGC member and teacher at Karcher Middle School

Karcher Garden in courtyard, finished Karcher Middle School Courtyard before garden

In the spring of 2001 I approached the BAGC with student proposals to transform the Karcher Middle School Courtyard from its unused and unsightly area into a beautiful garden walkway and quiet study area. I had hoped for some help choosing appropriate plantings- I got so very much more!

Member Joan Jones was and continues to be my contact, organizer, and cheerleader. Joan and member helpers cut, prune, plant, and clear on a regular basis. Member Karen Geiken and her family donated the birch tree. BAGC members donate new plantings each spring. Member Barbra Behrends finalized the plan from student input and directed the final plantings. Numerous other members (some of whose names I'm afraid I'll forget!) help me tend to the garden on a regular basis.

Karcher Middle School need only look out our windows onto a beautiful Courtyard garden to be reminded that we are grateful to BAGC. Thank you!!
